| I am 33 years old. I have lived in Richmond since 1990 when I moved from Salem, Virginia to attend VCU. I currently work at the Library of Virginia as a stacks assistant, retrieving and returning books. I live in Oregon Hill, located in Richmond's 5th District, near downtown and the James River. For the last three years, I have taken a greater interest in participating in our local government and I have asserted my right to exercise free political speech. I regularly attend Richmond City Council meetings, I speak during the Citizen Comment periods, and even put out two issues of a newspaper, The Crow, which covered the Council exclusively. This is the third time I have sought public office as a write-in candidate. I ran for city council in 2002, and for Mayor of Richmond in 2004. This is the first time I have run for state-wide office. I am running as a write-in candidate because I desire the job, it is the most inexpensive method of running for office, and it is the most democratic and individuallistic way to vote. A write-in campaign requires a level of participation from the voter that is more involved than just flipping a lever or touching a screen. It makes the voting process more of a secret social process that short circuits the power of money-candidates. A write-in campaign always needs to be a GRASSROOTS campaign. Please help, tell yours friends, co-workers, and family about the campaign. Together we can make a difference. My campaign is for the people of Virginia (and America) in the most direct sense. The values I represent go beyond the regular "tough on crime", "supporter of education" rhetoric you normally hear from politicians at election time. I am offering programs that will be impossible for me to impliment during my term as Lieutenant Governor but these are the sorts of policy decisions and programs I would support as Governor. Your vote will be a sign of your confidence that I will uphold the values herein expressed. I promise if elected, I will do my utmost to promote values which reinforce the ideals of equality, liberty, truth, democracy, and justice. As Lt. Governor, I will learn the things that are necessary to be an effective Governor. Your help is essential to making this campaign a victory. Feel free to help out however you can -- whether it is just telling your friends and family about the campaign, www.VOTESILVER.com, signing the petition, making flyers to hand out to voters telling them about the campaign. Any help would be appreciated. Likewise, if there is any thing I can do for you please call 804-683-7845. This November 8, write in "Silver Persinger" for Lt. Governor. Contact your Local Registrar's Office for more information about how to perform a write-in vote or for more information about registering to vote. |
