SAVE 6TH STREET MARKETPLACE

Tell them to save 6th Street Marketplace,

It belongs to the People of Richmond!

A massive, grass-roots outpouring of public anger directed at our elected officials and the City Manager is the only thing that may save the Marketplace from the wrecking ball.

> If you're not sure which district you reside in, the easiest way to find your district is to call the City of Richmond Voter Registrar's Office 8 am - 5 pm, Monday - Friday at 646-5950

or you can figure it out on-line by clicking here.

Your district is the first 2 digits of your "Precinct Code." For example: "0607" would be 06, the Sixth District, 07 is your specific precinct within the district.

Sixth Street Marketplace should be saved from demolition. The new Convention Center will finally provide the visitors that can make the Marketplace a success.

It is a mistake to waste over $30 million to construct and maintain a shopping center and then have the same group, Richmond Renaissance, that spearheaded the project suggest that we tear it down less than 18 years after it opens.

Demolition of the Marketplace is hypocritical. City Council claims to want downtown retail to come back to Broad Street while simultaneously going along with plans being pushed by developers, the Broad Street Community Development Authority, to destroy valuable commercial real estate (which would actually generate revenue for the city) and lead the city into a 30 year debt plan, with $101 million in interests alone, that the City expects to pay with fees from parking and higher assessments on donwtown properties. If the parking fees don't come, the City has agreed to pay the difference.

The Sixth Street Marketplace will be paid off within 3 years and it belongs to the citizens of Richmond, not City Council or Richmond Renaissance. The people of Richmond deserve to have an honest discussion before squandering this valuable city asset.

This website is paid for by Silver Persinger, a citizen of Richmond who is concerned about the manner in which the decision to demolish the 6th St. Marketplace was made without public input and for the seeming benefit of developers and speculators.
