| My
Political Platform: |
||||
| Allow me to state here at the beginning of my platform that these policies and programs reflect my personal political beliefs about ways government can improve the quality of life for poor and working people in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As Lieutenant Governor, it would be impossible for me to implement any of these policies or programs. What I present to you now is the platform that I would like to run upon in 2009. If you like my platform, I need you support. Tell your friends, family, and co-workers about the campaign. Together we can make a big difference. Write-in Silver Persinger for Lt. Governor November 8, 2005 Thanks for your support, Silver Persinger Brand New! October 30, 2005: Download the new pamphlet then email the PDF to share with your friends and family. |

| Consumer Protection: | ||||

• Assessment Relief: I support "freezing" your home's assessment value at the price you paid for your home, including improvements you make to the property up to $100,000 in value. Why should Virginians be penalized with higher assessments because the price of houses around their own are rising? This effectively punishes citizens who decide to remain in Virginia. • Internet Tax Reform: Abolish the "Internet Usage Tax" which taxes your internet purchases, instead only tax Virginians when they buy from fellow Virginians on-line and put the burden of tax collection on the seller not the buyer. Make Virginia the National Leader in Consumer Rights. |
||||
| Direct Democracy & Voting Rights: | ||||
![]() |
I support the election of Judges at the local and state levels, thereby extending democratic control of the third branch of government by the people of the Commonwealth. I support automatic restoration of voting rights to ex-felons after completing their sentences upon re-registration. These individuals are the very people that need the most assistance from the state in terms of education, job training, housing, and medical services. Their votes should not be deprived. |

| Equal Rights for Gays and Lesbians: | ||||

I
support civil unions for homosexuals. For me it is a simple
matter of equality before the law and an individual’s inalienable
right to liberty. The recent movement to ban gay marriage violates the
spirit of the first amendment. The First Amendment guarantees “Congress
shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting
the free exercise thereof …” Opponents of gay marriage want
to prohibit gay unions based upon religious beliefs – a legal ban
on gay unions is the same as establishing their religious beliefs which
is prohibited by the first amendment. Additionally the First Amendment
protects the free exercise of religion, therefore if even one church recognizes
gay unions as a marriage the First Amendment protects their right to practice
their religion. |

| Free Hi-Speed Rail for All Virginians: | ||||
|
|
Construct an all-new high speed rail system connecting all major points in the state. The system shall be FREE for all Virginians and low cost for out-of-state vistors. Security and Safety of the system will be chief concerns. Owned and operated by the Commonwealth for the benefit of its citizens. |

| Legalize Marijuana [ Hemp ]: | ||||
| I support the full decriminalization of marijuana for industrial and personal use & call for the release of all non-violent drug offenders from Virginia's jails and prisons. |

Weed to Rails Taxes from legal marijuana can become an important economic engine that could fund the previously mentioned high speed rail system and other programs. [Read more] |

I oppose new reactors at the North Anna nuclear power plant and further nuclear power development in the Commonwealth of Virginia. [Visit here for more info. External websites, unaffiliated with my campaign] I support cleaning Virginia's rivers and waterways. I support development of hemp as a viable fuel alternative. I support mandating that all new government buildings be built using energy efficient principles (such as day-lighting, geothermal heating/cooling systems, and solar applications), and require Energystar appliances which use less power, helping to conserve valuable resources and saving the Commonwealth money.

||||
| Living Wage for ALL Va. Workers and Income Cap for State Employees; | ||||
| Restore Union Rights: | ||||
| I support paying workers who work for the Commonwealth a living wage for the community where they work and live. I support limiting the annual salary of all Virginia State employees so that no one is paid more than $100,000 who works for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Lastly, many people do not realize that Virginia State employees lost their right to collective bargaining in 1993. This is a right that workers in the 1920's and 30's died fighting for -- I support Virginia to restoring this essential right which is the cornerstone of unions. |
||||
| NO Money Campaign: | ||||
| I am neither soliciting nor accepting donations. View my current expenses. If you want to support my campaign I would encourage you to print out some of my literature and share it with your friends and family. This does seem like an impossible battle but if Virginians truly support my campaign and the values I stand for -- Democracy can be victorious. | ||||
